[08/27/14 5pm] If you're a regular Gmail user, you might be interested in how Gmail lets you send messages with another of your email addresses (perhaps MTMAIL?) listed as the sender instead of your Gmail address. See https://support.google.com/mail/answer/22370 [08/27/14 9am] Do NOT use the "handin" command until further notice. It needs to be retrofitted for this semester before it can be used. [08/25/14 3pm] MTSU Football's home opener is this Saturday, August 30th, at 6pm. Students FREE with Student ID. Not only that, but (1) an iPad Mini will be given away at each home game to a student and (2) each student who attends all 6 home games will be entered into a drawing for FREE tuition! [08/25/14 1pm] Welcome to CSCI 6020. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fall 2013 Old Notices: [12/15/13 8pm] All of the OLA programming assignments are graded. Use http://peerdevel.cs.mtsu.edu/cgi-bin/gus/gus.py to retrieve. [08/31/13 6pm] The dates of Exam 1 and Exam 2 have been changed. Handout 1 (the syllabus) has been updated accordingly. Exam 1 is now Oct 9th; Exam 2 is now Nov 20th. [08/28/13 5pm] The "handin" command is now ready to accept "ola501". [08/26/13 8am] To make sure your browser doesn't serve you a "stale" copy of a page (for example, the course calendar), it is possible to force a refresh by doing a Ctrl/F5 (that is, hold down your Ctrl key and press F5). If that doesn't do it, see the tips found on this page: http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/ [08/21/13 10am] When sending e-mail messages to the instructor or lab assistant, please always include your name and the course number. This enables us to identify who the e-mail is from and what the context is. Also, unless otherwise specifically requested, please only send plain-text e-mail without MIME attachments. This allows us to read and respond using a "light" e-mail client (such as on a cell phone). ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fall 2012 Old Notices: [12/16/12 6pm] ALL open lab assignments have been graded and returned. You can either use PeerSpace or the handback command to retrieve you OLAs for review. [11/29/12 6pm] Remember, use the files from $PUB/LL for OLA510. [11/19/12 5pm] Just to confirm, the "rfs" project is due 11/21 at midnight. This assignment does not require any design on your part; it is very straightforward. [10/29/12 5pm] Thought for the week: Often programming errors are hard to find but, once discovered, painfully obvious. Do not be too upset with yourself when you find these errors. If you find a "stupid" error, do not think "I'm really dumb"; instead think "I must be a genius to locate such an obscure and hard-to-spot error!" Granted, both are overstatements, but the second is closer to the truth than the first. [09/19/12 10am] Lecture as usual today (Wednesday), however no lab. [09/10/12 9am] In addition to bringing your own set of earphones to future Closed Labs, you will also need to bring a USB Flash Drive (with at least 1G memory available). [08/27/12 8am] To make sure your browser doesn't serve you a "stale" copy of a page (for example, the course calendar), it is possible to force a refresh by doing a Ctrl/F5 (that is, hold down your Ctrl key and press F5). If that doesn't do it, see the tips found on this page: http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fall 2011 Old Notices: [12/08/11 7pm] Final Exam on Monday, 12/12, 12:30-2:30pm. [12/05/11 7pm] Handin for "LL" has been fixed. [10/31/11 3pm] The course calendar has been updated to include a link to OLA509 (rfs), the assert macro example, and the argc/argv handout. [10/31/11 11am] For future "A2L 2170" closed lab assignments ONLY, you have been assigned a "plus-10" cnumber. That is, starting with the November 2nd closed lab on Recursion, you will log on to the cslabserver2 system with a different cnumber than you have been using; this cnumber is simply ten greater than the one you typically use. Thus, for example, Xiao Liang (whose regular cnumber is c8676603) will use c8676613 when logging on to the cslabserver2 system. The passwords are the same as before. Two notes: (1) Do NOT use the "plus-10" cnumber to log on to ranger; continue to use your original cnumber. (2) Be careful NOT to use your old cnumber for these newer "A2L 2170" closed labs; your old cnumber will apparently work BUT it will silently destroy your existing grade records in the underlying data base! [10/24/11 6pm] The course calendar has been updated to include the latest open lab assignment (OLA508) that is due on Monday, October 31st. [10/02/11 7pm] No lecture on Monday, 10/3. Check course calendar and your e-mail for more information. [09/28/11 9pm] The Provost's office has asked faculty to suggest to their students they read about the new tornado alert protocol: http://mtsunews.com/accuweather-to-add-mtsu-tornado-alerts/ The gist of this article is that, with new pinpoint radar information, MTSU tornado warnings will only go off when danger is imminent---so don't ignore the sirens and warnings; false alarms are far less likely with the new system. [09/12/11 9am] Please note these corrections to the syllabus: Exam 1 is on September 28th (not 30th) and Exam 2 is November 2nd (not 4th). [09/07/11 6pm] The course calendar has been updated to include the open lab assignment (OLA502) that is due on Monday. [08/31/11 8am] The COMS Seminar schedule is available for viewing at http://mtweb.mtsu.edu/wding/seminar.html . Even though most of you are fairly early in the COMS program sequence, I heartily recommend that you attend a seminar this semester. In particular, take note of Dr. Carroll's seminar scheduled for October 21st. [08/30/11 8am] CSCI 6020 notices, such as this, appear here when you log on. These notices can be redisplayed by using the "Notices" command. They can also be displayed with a browser using the URL http://www.cs.mtsu.edu/~untch/6020/Notices.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fall 2010 Old Notices: [11/08/10 11am] The OLARFS handout was updated to correct a typo involving "olaRFS.cc". It should be "recDriver.cc". The handin for this assignment was also corrected to reflect a due date of 11/9/10. [11/04/10 10pm] Note: For the CSCI 2170 closed labs, you get to the files by using the prefix $CLA2170. [10/04/10 7am] The handin for ola106 was not working properly until this (Monday) morning. It should be okay now. [09/24/10 5pm] Evidence is mounting that MTMail's OWA mailer is sending a lot of legitimate e-mail to a "Junk E-Mail" folder...even if you forward your MTMail e-mail to another system. That apparently includes some messages I've mailed out via the course e-mail portal. Check your MTMail "Junk E-mail" folder as soon as possible---even MTSU financial aid notices are rumored to have been blocked and filtered. Also, it is possible to turn OFF unwanted filtering; to do so go to MTMail "Options"->"Block or Allow" and you'll get a page resembling http://www.cs.mtsu.edu/~untch/share/BlockOrAllow.jpg You can either turn off ALL filtering (as shown in the picture) or set that any mail from mtsu.edu or mtmail.mtsu.edu is from a "Safe Sender". [09/02/10 2pm] For administrative purposes, "Midnight" is defined as 23:59:59. [09/02/10 11am] To make sure your browser doesn't serve you a "stale" copy of a page (for example, the course calendar), it is possible to force a refresh by doing a Ctrl/F5 (that is, hold down your Ctrl key and press F5). If that doesn't do it, see the tips found on this page: http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/ [08/30/10 8am] To access password-protected course Web pages, use "MT" for the User name field and "CS" for the password. (No quotation marks; all upper-case letters.) [08/19/07 8am] Course notices, such as this, normally appear here when you log on. These notices can be redisplayed by using the "Notices" command. Retired notices can be redisplayed by using the "Old" command.
