[7/07/15 4pm] Although running NX directly from the PC you are using is the best way to connect to ranger, there are two alternative methods that may be handy if you are, say, on a friend's machine. One alternative is a web interface, but it's only guaranteed to work with the Chrome browser. Point the Chrome browser to https://cs.mtsu.edu/nx.html and answer all questions (like accept certificate, is it authentic, etc.) in such a way that you "keep going" and eventually you'll get to an NX login screen titled "NX - Ranger". Enter your Linux username (C-number) and password and click "Login". You may have to answer some more questions; again answer in such a way as to "keep going". Eventually a Linux desktop will pop up. When done, log out from the Linux desktop as you usually do (green "running person" button in upper right-hand corner and then select "Log Out" from the options) and then close the browser. The final alternative results in a noticeably slower connection to ranger but, if the machine you are on does not have NX or Chrome, may be your only option. Using Remote Desktop (if you can't find the Remote Desktop icon, then look through the program list available from Start), connect to shemp.cs.mtsu.edu. Once connected, you will see a desktop with all the icons you usually see on a KOM lab computer. Simply use the appropriate NX icon. That should get you on to ranger. When you are finished, you'll have to log out from ranger and then disconnect from shemp. [7/06/15 11am] Remember that CTRL/S pauses and CTRL/Q resumes the terminal display.
